Take Flight from Home with Dallas City of Learning Turn Up
Take an Expert Guided, Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Frontiers of Flight Museum and Dallas Love Field
For the past five summers, hundreds of youth and their families spent a day creating, tinkering and exploring the world of flight through the Dallas City of Learning Turn up with Frontiers of Flight Museum and Dallas Love Field. This summer, youth will have the opportunity to explore and imagine aviation in a new way through a Digital Turn Up event on Saturday, August 15 from 11am – 12pm.
“The Turn Up Event at Love Field and Dallas Love Field has been such a summer highlight for so many families,” shared Sergio Antonio Garcia, Program Manager for Dallas City of Learning with Big Thought. “We wanted to honor that tradition while keeping all of our youth and family safe.”
The Digital Turn Up will lead youth and families through a one-of-a-kind tour of Dallas Love Field and Frontiers of Flight Museum, granting access to restricted areas and experts with incredible stories. The Digital Turn Up will be a Live Premiere on YouTube, and participants will be able to live chat with staff and respond in real time to earn prizes during the hour-long experience.
“Producing the Turn Up event as a digital showcase will allow us to showcase areas of the airport that we wouldn’t be able to do during a large event,” stated Mark Duebner, Director of Aviation for Dallas Love Field. “The Digital Turn Up will be a unique way for kids to experience a behind-the-scenes look at how an airport operates and to meet the people who make it happen.”
While exploring Dallas Love Field during the Turn Up, participants will have an exclusive opportunity to
- Test drive the Airport Stripe Hog with Refugio Valadez
- Meet highly trained engineers and mechanics and learn about their jobs
- Learn the science behind the Love Field state-of-the-art luggage robotics system with Talk! STEM
- Hear how Dallas Love Field public art installations were created and impact visitors
“We’re thrilled to be able to continue to reach families with the Digital Turn Up event,” shared Dan Hamilton, Chairman and CEO of Frontiers of Flight Museum. “Kids will get to explore some of our most popular exhibits in a completely new way through the eyes of pilots, engineers and experts. Even if you’ve seen the exhibits before, the Digital Turn Up will give you a completely new perspective.”
Frontiers of Flight Museum exhibits featured in the Digital Turn Up include:
- SR71 Flight Simulator demonstration with Dan Steelman, VP of Collections & Exhibits
- Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-300 with Captain William “Bill” Cole
- Apollo VII with Ian “Dr. Moonwalker” Grey
- Tuskegee Airmen with William Stinnette, Aircraft Mechanic and Instructor
Delighted with the possibility of bringing the wonder and science of flight into individual homes, Allstate® stepped in to sponsor this event. Their sponsorship, along with Bank of Texas, enabled Big Thought to make the Digital Turn Up a reality.
