EAGLE Scholars University (2022)
Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation
EAGLE Scholars is made up of a very ethnically and culturally diverse group of 150 seventh through twelfth graders and 50 college students, all of whom are focused on a four-year college degree as their goal. The EAGLE Scholars program is designed to help our Scholars develop the skills they already have and acquire the ones they need in order to help them successfully get to college, through college, onto a career.
Scholars apply to the program in middle school. They go through an application process that includes a teacher recommendation and an interview by older EAGLE Scholars.
EAGLE Scholars is relationship-based and Scholar-centered. We work to develop leaders who know that their voice matters and is an important part of the conversation. We believe in being comfortable with the uncomfortable so we work to challenge Scholars to step out of their comfort zone and try new things. Our combination of individual family meetings, college readiness meetings, college visits, exposure to career opportunities, and engagement in cultural activities, address Scholars’ unique needs to be prepared mentally, as well as academically, to be the first in their family to go to college.
