Participants deep dived into the book "The Accommodation" by Jim Schutze to analyze the text presented and uncover parallels to the the communities in which we reside today. Participants completed the reading of the book as well as engaged in open dialogue around particular subject matters within the text. (e.x., racial bias, redlining, institutional and structural racism) Participants also completed creative writing assignments in the form of short paragraphs, prose and poems to accompany deeper thought around the topics found in the text. Participants were challenged to discover the racial undertones that exists within the text and how those actions/policies shape communities today.
