Start Strong: Set your New Kindergartner on a Successful Path

Girl Scouts Start Strong

After spending months at home, children entering kindergarten face a unique set of challenges. It will take a diverse support network to ensure that they begin their formative educational years on the right foot, giving them a healthy start for the next 12 years.

The transition to kindergarten can be difficult for the most well-adjusted preschool student. But with more time spent at home this spring, new procedures (wearing a mask, different schedules, etc.) in place and fewer in-person readiness events this year’s kindergarteners are in for new challenges and will need an even stronger social and emotional stamina. How do we ensure that these students and their parents have the resources they need to succeed?

A panel of experts, ranging from education to mental health and well-being to social learning and parenting will offer perspectives on how to help your child have the best start to their very first year in elementary school!

Featuring:

  • Dr. Olga Hickman, Executive Director, Bachman Lake Together
  • Elena S. Hill, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent, Early Learning, Dallas Independent School District
  • Aimee Herron-Troy, M.S. CCC-SLP, Center for Brain Health, The University of Texas at Dallas
  • Jennifer Bartkowski, CEO, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas

The panel will be moderated by Shelly Slater with The Slate and streamed live online. The live stream link will be shared to each registrants’ email address prior to the event.
