Dallas City of Learning is a partnership between Big Thought, the City of Dallas, and Dallas ISD to ensure all students have access to high-quality summer learning programs that stem summer learning loss. Together, we work with a powerful network of over 330 neighborhood, community and city partners to connect students to free or low-cost local resources and opportunities.
Closing the Opportunity Gap
Students who do not have access to high-quality programming during the summer can lose 2-3 months’ worth of learning, which means they start the next school year behind. This lack of equitable access to crucial out-of-school education and social-emotional learning time creates what we define as the Opportunity Gap.
Over the last 3 years, Dallas City of Learning has served over 50,000 students. Students who regularly attended Dallas ISD programs as part of Dallas City of Learning saw significant advantages in math and reading, equivalent to 20-25% of a year’s learning*.
